Old Scarab Question

Helping out a friend who had trouble posting. His question:

"Hey Guys,
Am looking at an older Welcraft Scarab 38 footer with triples that has been pretty extensively retrofitted. Power now is triple 454-465hp thru Borg Warner Cyborg trans then TRS drives not sure what prop he is spinning, 4 batteries 300 gals fuel, 50 gals water, a/c and frig no generator. How well did these boats run he says cruise at 3500 rpm at 55mph and top out at 85mph. Very nice looking boat for its age and lot of work done but that seems optimistic for what I would guess is a 12,000 lb boat. Any ideas or am I way off guessing weight?

Owner has told me weight is 10,500 and props are 23p if that helps. Hull is a 1981 but everything else has been replaced in last few yrs, he says he spent about $80k refitting.."

Do the math. 23" with 1.5 gear (TRS) and say 5200 RPM gives 68 with 10% slip (and I doubt it is that good).

Raised deck or flat deck? My 86 40 Scarab (38 with molded on swim platform) raised deck weighed 11,000 w/1/4 tank of fuel and 2 engines. Went 58mph turning 23 pitch props at 4800 rpm. Flat decks are a little lighter. That boat might go 70 but not likely.

That's what I was thinking, sure it's a 38' and not a 43'?

The 38 raised deck was available in a sise by side or staggered setup. I've seen a couple that were made into triples since there was ample room in the engine compartment. I doubt any came out of the factory with triples.
I'm with Greg P on the top speed, probably around 70. Twin 400 cyclones pushed them in the low 60s.
The hulls were relatively fast, but the weight of the cabin and the use of the belly fuel tank really slowed them down. They had to run a low X dimension to get trim control with all that weight up forward. That slowed the boats even more.
