Pros and cons of living in area Ft. Myers to Naples. Boating and as a parent of high schooler. Will be down there this weekend on two interviews with possible relocation only months away.

You will definitely need to pick up another Pantera, since you will be able to use it nearly every day of the year!
 :D

Don't have any kids so can't help you there, but the boating is as good as it gets. You can still get good deals on waterfront property just north of Ft. Myers, the Port Charlotte area.

We have four major offshore boat races here. Two in Sarasota, one in St. Pete, one in Ft. Myers.

The wife is worried about the school systems

BearPaw:

We recently relocated to Naples. We decided to send the kids to private school. The research we had indicates a statewide high school graduation rate of approximately 60%. Further, only 60% of those graduates go on to a 4 year college. College attendance is certainly not the only indicator of success. However, it does provide an indication of the quality of the schools.

One of the reasons we chose Naples had to do with the schools - both public and private. Other reasons are proximity to culture, probability of property appreciation in the future, crime rates.

So far, we are really enjoying Florida. It's really tough to beat the weather. Traffic is problematic only during January to March (we have spent a good deal of time here previous to our move). The summer heat is no more bothersome than our previous location, NJ. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

If you are going to live as determined by school system, you most likely will end up in Tampa.

I've done the research and Pinellas and Hillborough counties are among the best.

See you there this summer!

PS - you will spend and extra 100k for the privlege, though.
