Since this has turned into the" Kicking cops" thread..
let me ask you this.............
Last Fri night driving home I see a pick-up with a couple kids of the road,stuck in the ditch. They flag me down ask for a tow...Sure,why not....Get hooked up & a local cop comes running up scresming at me to un-hook...No problem...He then tells me to pull over & wait for county cop to get there. Tells me it is "Obstructing justice" To pull these kids out ???? What ???? Is this true ?

Sound's like a low risk chance to make the county some cash on a non violent crime.
The bottom line is that all cops are in a high risk job and the #1 thing on their mind is to go home at the end of their shift. So a lot of them prefer to fill their Quota (that they don't have) with the least amount of danger. The county has to get their $$$ some how and it's harder to raise taxes than write tickets. And if they bust real crooks and put them in jail it cost $$$. Plus if they busted all the bad guy's there would be no crime then they won't have a leg to stand on on why they need to take your guns.

Birddog, its a little hard to answer the question with just the info given. Depending on the situation they might need the car to stay there as evidence, say an accident or DUI offense. Best thing I can say is just take his word for it.
Lapse of reason, You are partially right. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. This does not mean that I will shy away from dangerous stuff and be a coward on the street. There are many aspects of the job that most people just are not aware of. As far as money makers, tickets bring in very little money to the area. For instance, in Pa, the local municipality only gets a couple dollars from each ticket issued. Most goes towards the courts, state programs and other expenses. Believe me, the cost of me working outweighs the income from that one ticket.
For anyone who thinks that this is a easy, simple job where nobody does anything, the best thing I can recomend is to try it. Put an uniform on and walk in our shoes.

Indy?? Not following you there. Unless your refering to Indiana. Then the answer is no. Pgh. Pa. And not on Park detail. I would be bored out of my skull doin that. Too much of an adrenaline junkie. Explains why I like the fast boats.

IF you was from Indianapolis, you would understand the park thing.

Yeah trout, when was the last time you wrote a speeding ticket?
I'm betting it's been years. When was the last time you put a sever abuser of the drunk driving laws in jail? Guessing it hasn't been that long.
Lapse has no clue I guess.

I have been told by a few cops the the #1 thing to them is to go home at the end of the day. All cop's staying away from risk, I don't think so. I know there are good one's and bad one's. But if your not willing to take the risk day in and day out go get get a desk job.
