The problem with the other locks (not Sternlock) is they are like Mag locks and only make so many different "keys". It doesn't take much to get a "set" of keys.:(

I just bought the McGards. Read were there are only a few keys though. Any lock is better than none, plus it shows the Ins. Co's that I at least made an effort. (Will have pictures of drives and props locks on file) Don't want to make them impossible to steal, how else am I goinna get new drives? :D
After looking at the Sternlock locks, I don't see how they work with hyd steering or some drive showers. The lock is right where the cyls. mount to my rear drive caps. |
like to see them use this tumbler system
less parts to bind up http://www.lockingsystems.com/Pfd_Fi...ock%20Page.pdf |

Originally posted by Troutly Stern Lock, I would assume that I would need your custom stern lock (the small one) with my Mercury Racing ITS drives, tie-bar, and drive shower caps on my 382? Also, does one remove the prop nut to use the prop lock? |
Just a couple suggestions related more to the recovery of stolen property. In any case, these things might only discourage the amateurs, a pro is going to get it if they want it and sell the parts.
Use a Dremel tool and put your drivers license number under the cavitation plate where it cannot be seen. Alternatively you could etch the drivers license number or a symbol in the skeg, and/or drive housing and paint over it. Same thing applies to trailers, engrave the same info in a couple different places hidden from normal view, and in visible areas as well. Drill a few non-descript holes in the frame that might just help you identify it from a casual distance. Home Depot sells grommets to line the hole(s) in some nice bright colors for instance, this would make it a just a little easier to identify. There are other subtle things you can do to identify your property, just use your imagination. |
