Default Third generation RX-7

Who's got em? What to watch for when buying, other than the fact they only get 45k on a motor ?

bought a 22k mile 93 car from a Dr. in 99, kept it 4 yrs, strong runner, relatively cheap to insure, 100k miles is not out of the question (sold ours at 50 something)

They are not the most reliable- little things, few shops know them well, like turbo timers and gentle warm ups. apex seals like an oil additive in the fuel. Look up pettit racing in FL- they specialize and have lots of good scoop.

When the motor does go, a rebuild is almost 2k.

The motors aren't that bad, but the turbos do not last at all.

thanks for the input. I've had a couple 2nd gen non turbo's so I know the rotaries pretty well. If turbos are the biggest issue I'll be o.k. I got a few friends that do custom balancing and work with turbo's So I may just switch to a good single setup.

The turbo's are fine if you change your dino oil every 2500 (no advantage to syn here) and use a turbo timer. these are hot running motors, no timer to properly cool at shut down and you're throwing cash away- large amounts. Good luck.
