How big of a boat (wide) can you tow on the road?
My father-in-Law is considering a 330 Baha cruiser. It's down in Fort Pierce FL. I'm not sure if it has an 11' or a 12' beam. and weighs around 12.000lbs.
How wide of a boat can be towed? Would you tow a boat this wide about 1300 miles, or let a transport company do it?
He has to buy a trailer for it anyway. I'm not all that excited about towing it up here for him, but I'll do it. Id like to see him buy a trailer up here and jet let a local marina lift the boat from one trailer to another.
Any thoughts?
I'd be towing with a single tired F350,PSD.

I thought i read once the maximum trailer width is 102" but i don't know how far the load can hang over the sides without a permit, i'd call the dot and find out for sure.

I transported a Chris craft 281 from florida to Milwaukee, WI 1,500 miles.
Boat has a 10 foot beam. 10,000 lbs with trailer.
No problem at all till i got to the Chicago Toll booths.
they are 10 feet wide, so I removed the yellow paint off of the toll booth while going through. Oh well.
Must do through large citys at night. Thats what I did.
All in all, no problems. Good luck. B3

12' wide Transporting Florida to Indiana
Mark
Do yourself and your Father-in-law a BIG favor and dont even think about it!!Ten foot, You might be lucky and able to sneak it by but 12' wide, no way!!
Hire a transport company. even they, will be required to have permits, wide load markings and in some states maybe a escort.
Remember summer is in the near future and there is always the Mississippi River, Might be a fun Family venture if the craft is in good shape.
On my last poker run, I got stopped in Pa. on the pike because my Cat hung over my triple axel trailer on each side one and a half in. they required me to stop and go into a higher class because of it.. I told the trooper that the boat was towed all the way from Navada and no one said a word he said" maybe so, but not thru Pa."End of story.
PS.. I still think he had a badge on his underwear also!!He was a full time cop! "Dont confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!" Kind of guy.
Anyway wish you the best which ever way you go,If I can be of help let me know>>

It may be less expensive in the long run...... to let a professional do it.
Just my $.02
