Why is it that liberals always find ways to justify tax increases?

Yet but it is the government (and especially their outside contractors-the biggest proponents of big gov't) who are the biggest beneficiaries of the increased tax rolls.

Whatever the case, the government always wins.

MOVE

You could then buy some nice waterfront property in Green Island or Troy on the lovely Hudson River and cut your tax bill by 75%

You two guys are intelligent people you think you have an argument about unfair taxes because the place your parents bought 25 years ago for $10k is now worth $2 Mill. Come on guys cry me a freakn river... fess up to the value you will enjoy when you sell them or MOVE as Bob said you can't be serious!!!

Or whinne but share ALL the capital gains, Please!

That is funny!!!

OR, you can try and rectify the situation. I guess 400 people fighting it in Pilot Knob shows that I am not alone in my thought process. ANYONE that knows me, knows that I am MORE than willing to pay my FAIR share. However, this DISPROPORTIONATE situation had lead to taxation without equal representation. Surely those that do not have lakeside property don't want us to fight it. Then they may actually have to pay a more equal amount. Funny thing is, these are the people that are the recipients of the services that we are the primary funding sources of.

And correct me if I am wrong, but didn't you LEAVE Canada because excessive taxation GLH? I have ALWAYS been the FIRST to admit that I am EXTREMELY fortunate to be the recipient of the home that I have. And I am also the FIRST one to OPEN it to my friends NEW and old, ANY day, ANY time! However, as you may or may not recall, the purpose of this home is not to capitalize on the capital gain, but to pass it along for generations to enjoy, that will hopefully find the same love and passion for the area that I have.

Another thing, my parents did NOT buy our place for $10,000 25 years ago. They paid significantly MORE for the land and my father and I built the place OURSELVES! I have more sweat equity in that place than anything else. So before you come out with your satirycal bull****, try and get your FACTS straight. All I did was start a thread about situation that is happening all over the area and you make it personal. I thought you were more of a gentleman than that.:(

Since, I was never invited, I will have to agree, stop whining shane !! :D :D

Just kidding,, actually, I agree, just because you have lake front property shouldn't give them the right to tax you right out of your house, while other in the same community pay significantly less..

I also agree w/ the child thing.. I have no kids, by choice, the people next door have 3, they have twice the house, 4 times the property and pay less than I do in taxes,,, yet have 3 kids in the system. will it ever change,, nope... and it SUCKS.. I agree that we need to keep our schools and education system strong, but theres no fairness in my opinion,, why not place more of the burden on the people creating it. ??? I choose not to, but pay equally..

You have been to my house, you saw how small it was and how small the lot is,,, my taxes have gone up over 40% in 3 years,,, when I bought the house they were 4,500, got them lowered because the assessment was much higher than what I paid,, 5 years later they are right back where they started. I went to town meetings saw many elderly couples who have lived there their whole lives are on a fixed income and don't want to leave, but when their taxes go from 1,500/2,000 to over 5,000 they really don't have a choice,, what did the town say ??d too bad,, if you can't afford the taxes then move,,

Chris,

You know you are welcome up to the house ANYTIME! Which leads us to the question, when are Hot Boat, Tantrum and excavator gonna drag yur azz up?;) :eureka:

You are right in your above statement. I have NO PROBLEM supporting the community. Heck, that is why I VOLUNTEER so much time to the community via the fire service, Kiwanis etc. 40+% of my pay to TAX, sales TAX, HUGE PROPERTY and SCHOOL TAX, when does it end?:( And then they want me to support little league, this and that....I say let the parents whose kids are playing pay for it! Don't come to me with your hand out. And before someone jumps down my throat, I DO NOT go out for the fire department asking for money. I REFUSE! Any money we use for social functions we get through fund raising efforts like dinners we cook and serve. Those I participate in because someone is getting something in return for the money they spend. I CHOOSE to VOLUNTEER with NO expectations of ANYTHING in return. That is why it is called VOLUNTEERING!

Shane thanks,,,, Donna and I absolutely love your house,, very nice..

My parents owned something like 35 rental properties in glenns falls and on glenn lake,,, I spent many many weekends up there and would you believe have NEVER been on L.G. itself, the closest I got was standing on your dock,, and through the kindness of hot-boat, got to experience just how beautiful it is up there after our wedding ( thanks again that was very nice).

From the pics I saw of the get together last year, it looks gorgeous, hopefully we will be able to make it out this year for some of the get togethers.. :)

Chris,

Absolutely, you guys are welcome. Hope to see you soon.

The comments by GLH are rather surprising as he andI have been friends for a while. It actually hurt my feelings. Anyway, you racin' that PWC this summer?

GLH 03-05-2004 08:50 AM

Don't take me too seriously here buddy there might be unequities but on the overall with all line items taken into account the net of the situation is still at your advantage.

And your a person of action so if the problems would really be to the point that you evaluate warrants actions I am sure you would take them, just talking or complaining about a problem never resolves it.

I acted on the situation in Canada I did not like, the action was to move to a better tax climate with all the circumstance it involves.

Shane don't take these dicussions too personaly, beatching is always a wasted effort, acting shows what your made of.

:D

Shane 03-05-2004 09:29 AM

As stated earlier we are in the process of examining the potential of joining forces with others to possibly hire a specialist in this area. Numbers speak more powerfully than individuals, although I think that we likely have little impact. Not being pessimistic, just realistic. You know that I am a person of action, and this was not meant to be a whining session, rather a discussion of the situation whereby sharing my experience, and those of others, some helpful advice may be shared/learned. Unfortunately, some viewed it as whining and commented accordingly.
