stepped hulls?
curiosity hit again this morning as I was trying to stay away from OSO while at work..............FAT CHANCE........
who invented stepped hulls? I heard informally it was Reggie. Correct? anyone know the history ? |
I think you may have to go back a little farther. Like the 1920s.
I think the steps were invented waaaaay before Reggie's time. Ask T2X. He will know.
Nope. They go back to the 20's, maybe a little earlier. They were first used on some float planes. To answer your next question, these planes also had notched transoms on the floats.
interesting, I was wondering who had the patent since I see them in just about all manufacturers
1890'S.
I've searched.... the earliest patent on stepped hulls I could find goes back to the twenties.... check www.uspto.gov... you can search patents online and see prior artwork.. this site only takes you back to 1976.... but the prior artwork goes waaaaay back..
If I remember what I read properly, it was Christopher Columbus Smith. You may remember his company, Chris Craft.
Story goes he was sitting around a pond watching bugs skim across the water and he came up with the idea. |
Ask Bulldog... he will confirm....the first stepped hull was made by a caveman named Og.... :eureka:
Then OG cut off the limbs of the branch he was floating on and named his boat "LOG".... short for "later...OG"..:p
