GL, just a silly little question but have you looked at taking out an event liability insurance policy to cover your furry french butt just in case something were to happen? There is mucho logged proof that YOU organized this little boat ride and if some dam kayaker were to become cat food, guess who they would sue. I hate to be a downer but as the VP of the performance boat club of canada, we just went through some hard times getting coverage for the organizers of events and heard all about what kind of liability concerns surround the person or persons who organize events. There are companies that will underwrite one day events for about 700 bucks. Maybe something you want to look into?

I hear that DJ but if your laws are anything like ours, that doesn't matter. GL has graciously made himself a target here buy organizing this "friendly get together". Judges don't give a rats arse who screws up, just who can pay.

No fees are charged and I have absolutely no policy or decision making powers outside of my own boat (even in there is questionable!). This gathering of friends is in no way a commercial or money making endeavor in ANY WAY and no responsibility is assumed for or by anybody to anyone.
I have insurance for my boat and everyone should have theirs but I am in NO WAY verifying anyone or anything from anybody else, everyones assumes their own risks. And I am only responsible for my own boat. We are going on a run that day with a bunch of friends that is it. If someone runs over/into/under anything, blows up/down or sidewayz anything, they are responsible for their own actions. Nothing is organized all that is mentioned here on the board is the time we (my wife and I in our boat) are leaving and were we are going. The day I initiate any form of coverage / signed log / rules or any such clerical crap and I have to make one attorney or an attorney from an insurance company richer is the last day I do this. I assume everyone coming can breath on their own. And I can help anyone as a friend or fellow boater would. That is the extent of my commitment to our (my wife and I) little ride. |

This thread only facilitates a bunch of friends meeting together on a given weekend. We actually use this thread to line up every weekend it looks like. |
