IT Wasn't a hp issue,
I WAS RUNNING ABOUT 55 IN A LONG TURN AND RAN IN SHALLOW WATER RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER.
I HAVE RUN THAT SECTION FOR 10 YEARS AND NEVER SEEN IT THAT SHALLOW IN THE MIDDLE. I GUESS ALL THE RAIN CHANGED IT.
THE THING THAT SUCKS IS THAT MERCRUISER CAN'T DESIGN A BETTER WAY TO CHANGE GIMBLE RINGS AND PINS OTHER THAN PULLING THE MOTOR OUT
THE DRILLING AND TAPPING METHOD IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME, LOOKS LIKE CRAP!
HERE'S A TIP MERCURY (ACCESS COVER UNDER THE DECAL)

Someone posted a thread sometime back about replacing them from the rear. They showed removing the M/C sticker and making an access hole there. When completed they had a polished stainless cover that fit just like the sticker and nothing else could be seen. If I had to replace mine this would be a good option.

Get in touch with Wild Thing Taz.
He has designed a window cut out for the rear of the housing which gives access. I did it last year and it worked out very well.
Ill see if I cant dig up some pics and post them.
