Had one for about three years. An '88 model with 7.4 and bravo. Shallow hull but still rode pretty good - the hull is accually 21' - 6". Mine was stock with a 23 pitch mirage and ran right at 60 mph. No real complants with the boat except not long enough.

Great boat for the $$!
A good friend of mine had an 88 with 365 Magnum. That thing ran about 70.. A little lazy planing off, but a simple prop change would do it.
Yes hull was shallow. It slapped a lot, then we added Bennett dual ram tabs and it was a whole new boat! Best $$ he ever spent was on the tabs.
Like I said, hard to beat it for the money. I think he paid $11-$12k for his with 200 hours on it.

I also had a 88 with a 454 mag. Ran between 68-70 and was pretty stable. Ive seen people get over 90 out of the 23 velocity but thats kind of a crazy ride. Not that theres anything wrong with that. Its a great boat for the money. The only reason I got rid of mine was for a deeper hull with stand up bolsters.

I had an1989 23 Regal Velocity. It had a 454 mag and after a set of lighting headers & K&N air cleaner it would do 72 mph on a "good" day and 70 mph any time. For a 22 foot boat it took rough water pretty good and you will learn a lot about trimming a go fast. The only problem I ever had was with the wiring. Regal was stingy with the length of the harness and how it was supported. On a rough day in Lake Huron the wire terminal pulled out from the drive trim switch. as it was part way up i had a ***** of a time getting up on plane to get home. <g> Put in some new wire and better support and never had any problems. Top rate components were used throughout the boat. For example with the 454 mag you got full hydraulic Latham steering.

Gotta agree with Dave. Mine was an 87 with 454 Mag Alpha. (330 crank hp with 1/36 Alpha drive). I believe the hull is the same as the original 22 Velocity, which was a great boat. then Regal added a molded swim platform and tall windshield.
Boat ran 72mph, then we started playing with Nitrous and got her into the low 90's.
Unfortunately, A 454 coming unglued at almost 6000rpm's is a sound you don't soon forget.
Re-powered with true 454 mag/Bravo 1 it ran 71mph on a good day, 73 running out of fuel with labbed prop and everything perfect.
It was a very poorly balanced boat along with terrible aerodynamics due to the tall windshield. It was quite the chine walker and was a handful to drive at times, but it was fast and lots of fun. It would beat you to DEATH in rough water and had more cracks than I wanted to count. But I strongly feel that boat made a better driver out of me. Especially since I survived it.
You can find them cheap, they aren't bad to sleep in and they can be a lot of fun.
