Just get threw the Mixing Bowl before 6:00am (95/495 intersection) and you should get by fine. There is a way of getting on 301 south of DC and going to the east.

You can bypass DC by taking 301 from just North of Richmond (the exit on 95 is marked 207, which then goes to the 4-lane sections of 301) and rejoining 95 at Baltimore (301 will take you to the 895 tunnel or you can take 695 and the Key Bridge). If it's morning rush, 301 would be faster. Otherwise with all the stoplights going through Waldorf you may be at a push time wise.

GregP's directions sound good. The only difference is I would hit 301/50, go over the Bay Bridge and continue on 301 up into Delaware. This way you bypass Baltimore too. It's a nice scenic ride with little traffic.

I wouldn't do the 301/50 over the bay bridge this weekend though (it's Easter getaway) or any friday night, saturday morning, or sunday morning from now through the summer.

If there is too much traffic at the Bay Bridge, pull off into Sandy Point, launch, and go for a BLAST!

Hit the Mixing Bowl ( south of Dc - intersection of 95 & 495 ) @ 5:00 am during weekdays. This will put you in the proper time frame to miss all other rush hour traffic along your route

take 495 east to 95N....through Baltimore's FT McHenry Tunnel....95N to Del Memorial Bridge....... New Jersey Turnpike........depending upon where you need to go in Jersey...... exit #11 Garden State Parkway this avoids the North Jersey & NY nightmare

tolls start @ the Ft. McHenry Tunnel than two more in MD, 2 in Del. ( including the bridge ) , NJ turnpike you pay when you get off and Garden State Pky has a ton of them

send me you AAA membership fee and I will tell ya more

I prefer to stay on the Philli/Trenton side and stay off of the NJ turnpike. Much nicer drive (and drivers) and saves a lot of $$ on tolls (the Del Mem bridge is steep if your towing and/or have a dually). Cross back to NJ at Edison/Perth Amboy area.
