What a pleasure!
What a pleasure it is to spend money with someone who does a flawless job!
I've been planning to drag my 'ol Top Gun to the Konrad Marine facility for some drive upgrades and I decided to make sure the motors were in top form.
I sent the boat to Tim Dorr, D.M.E. in Windham, Maine for a thorough examination and sure enough, a little preventative maintenance goes a long way.
Tim built me a fresh (port) motor last fall. The stbd ran perfect but I wanted to tear it down and inspect for questionable parts before failure. It's a good thing we did because Tim had found a roller lifter that was going away, unusual cam wear and several other issues that could have destroyed the motor had I run it much longer.
After all these horror stories we hear about, shoddy business practices etc. in the hi-perf marine industry, I feel so lucky to have a wrench of his caliber in my back yard.
We spent the afternoon firing up the mills, watching temps, setting timing and just doing an extremely thorough overall check to be sure all vital signs were in line for the install of the Konrad 540HP drives. I'm now ready to hit the road!
Maine might seem like a far away place for a high-end offshore shop and I feel lucky to have one of the best guys in the business down the road from me.
Happy customer,
Kurt
