Default Insurance: whatsupwithat

I'm just a guy with a 21 ft 11 year old boat. I know you guys with bigger rigs pay more than I do. Last year I paid 319. My bill this year is 800 and they raised the deductible. What to do.

Hello BJ,

I'm in your area and my insurance went up a little bit this year too. It didn't increase at the rate that you have mentioned but it did go up. It does pay to shop around for boat insurance. You can do a search on the topic and get some names of people to try. I am through Allstate and have had a very positive relationship with them.

Where do you do most of your boating? Ever make it up to Madison, WI? I'm guessing you are on the Rock River?

Dave Yea, I did shop around last year and now this year it went up. I am planning on shopping around again. Most of the time on the Rock. Our second choice is the Madison chain a couple times a year. bj

bj,

if you are ever in the area look me up. I'm usually hanging with a group of bajas in madison. Not a ton of go-fast stuff up here and it's always nice to see/meet new people. Oh yeah, I'm in a little 25 eliminator.

Good luck with the insurance. It's getting worse and worse for the faster boats. Just out of curiosity, who are you with now that gave you the steep jump in price?

Our Baja, all in dads name is only 13$ a month for full coverage

God forbid they knew he never went on it for any of the 120+ hours last year.

He is 42, has had no tickets since 88, no at fault accidents, etc.

21 ft. 11 yr old boat!!! Dude your getting raped, are u sure you have your facts correct. Most of us now are left with just 2 or 3 underwriters who will insure our boats. I hear it doesn't matter who writes it cause your only gonna get one taker from the 3 and thats the quote you take or the boat goes uninsured. Thats what i'm being told anyway..

Yea, I'm gonna call'em next week. The cover sheet is full of reasons why. Boat bigger then tow vehicle, boats beam over 81/2 ft, coastal stuff, and the good old "hard insurance market". Some one told me the other day.
BOAT: a hole in the water you keep pouring money into".

I had a nice chat with my insurance agent (for the last 20 years) last week over boat insurance costs (American Family). Ours has dropped the last three years. We pay about $750/yr agreed value policy on our '99 AT. They actually would now insure us in a Top Gun if we wanted one, and have loosened what boats they will insure. They provide such services for stabile, solvent income couples with no accident history, ages above 40 since history has shown to them the risk is low in that category. He said those that meet certain criteria have turned out to be a very good business deal for AF.

He rolled his eyes when I mentioned catamarans......

Well I didn't wanty to say much till I talked to NATIONAL MARINE UNDERWRITERS. Sounds like my Premiums gonna be $800. Up from $319 last year and had no claims. So it looks like I'm back to the phone to shop around. Any ideas. ttfn
