In Indiana, I still have to pay $75 per year for regestration. I would have to pay that whether it was documented or tittled.
I had the documentation transefered to me and saved the sales tax and porperty tax. :)

Payton.
I wish NY was that way in order to get title in your name you must pay sales tax between both boats that's almost 7 g's:( :(

Holy crap!

I am in the process of doing this also, so far it has not been too bad and to save 1000s in sales tax is worth it. The seller is dealing with most of it and it will cost me $420 for the transfer. This is like Title Ins on a home, they can do lien searches and ownership searches, the Bank loves this and the Ins Co could care less. In any case the fact you save ST and don't have to put numbers on is a plus. The only draw back I can see is the CG or Sherrif now have a reason to come along side and board you looking for this number. I am an honest citizen so what do i have to worry about. My girlfriend is 18 in one month so she doesn't have to hide anymore.:D In most cases I just tell them she is my Daughter:eek:

I think your state reg. stickers (not numbers) are to be displayed on each side of your name of the boat if the name is on the stern. When cops don't see any numbers they will look for the name and state stickers.
Documentation is an international way to clear title of a vessel. Also, don't forget to display proper size documentation numbers in the bildge.

What about selling the boat once it is registered? Across state lines? Any issues?

Downtown42 04-13-2004 02:53 PM

shouldn't be..just need to register with your state. Documentation is Federal
