Exclamation 500efi owners Heads up!!

After many discussions about the valve springs in these motors I deceided to replace mine 2001 500efi 275 Babied Hours, seriously.

Results: One broken inner spring the rest there but worn. My mechanic said that it looked like the one had been broken for at least 20 hours of use.

So if you have this motor and you have 200 + hours change your valve springs.

Good Luck

WILL

Replace the Junk OE GM head gaskets while you are at it or you will be sorry. (I used Fel-Pro marine) I just did my (2000) 500EFI's at 152 hrs and one of the gaskets would not have made it through the season. Also changed springs (Isky 8005-A SP) and did valve job. My old springs were still in pretty good shape.

Should be able to get springs and valve job for around $500.00 per set of heads.

Thanks for the info.

Does anybody know if the carbed 500's have any of these issues?

Make sure you have the heads checked for cracks around the valves. 325 hrs and mine had several.

Is there any issue with the 502 EFI motors? Or just the 500EFI's?

BTW, you guys are really dorking up my resale potential with this thread. My 500EFI has 200 hours exactly, and it runs like a top, has not lost a nick, and I checked compression when I commissioned a few weeks ago.

Somebody buy my boat!!!

I too replaced all of mine a few months ago on both of my 500 EFI motors.... 350 ish babied hours, fortunately not one was broken. I did get a renewed power increase after changing them.
