Steve Snider:

How old are you? does your coverage include the bahamas or leaving the country? I'm curious because I'm in the market for the same size/yr of cig and wondering what I can expect for ins. cost.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, I am 53 and have a excellent driving record. No recent boat or vehicle claims except for my F-350 which was stolen a couple years ago. I go with a high dedictible ($5,000.)The factors that the insurance companies use are driving record, deductible, year, type, and value of boat, and credit rating. I had many different quotes and ended up with Progressive for my 1994 Cafe w/ 1998 Bulldogs. I was told 500 hp per side (1000 hp total) is the limit with Progressive. Later, Steve

I'm a newbie, and got a quote before I decide to buy (smart, right?). USAA, $1500 deductible, $1300 a year for a 36 foot twin 500hp with trailer, told them a bout a year 2000 and about 100K purchase price.

Seems pretty reasonable, being my first boat and being 24. I also have many other policies with them, may be a factor.

I went through Geico on the Z33 Donzi and they wrote the policy for $879/year with a $1000.00 deductible and full coverage.

My 1994 STV ModVP river racer was out of sight at $2600.00 a year for the hull only. They will not insure the motor. The writer did some research on the boat by looking at Scream and Fly.com website. Just so happens this was at the same time that Hank Hogan has flipped his boat at over 140 mph... the same hull I have. So, they naturally think mine will do the same.

I passed on the insurance on the STV and a month later ripped the transom. Now I wish I had it.
