Those kayak paddling Einsteins

Dodged a couple of those freaking granola chewing parasites this evening.

All those kayaks out at dusk without lights bobbing in the middle of the Lake. I know your cheap asses nature loving bark chewing nature might not let you buy destructive non environmentally friendly batteries but burning a little stored electricity in the form of a light bulb will feel better than a 5 ton, 80MPH boat with labbed props running over your dumb ass in the troff of a wave at dusk.

I mean these dumb-asses surely didn't invent the button with four holes in it! Jeez then when an accident happens it's our fault because we had the foresightedness to have lights and power where those pot smoking dough heads were half drowned getting a bobbing buzz on!

I have a kayak, but I'd never take it out in open water or a channel, especially at night...with or without lights.

But, you're right. Run 'em over and the finger gets pointed at us big, bad power-boaters.

Around here they use the rivers and large creeks, if they are on a lake I would think they need to stay close to shore. should be illegal to be out in Kayak at night

I was thinking the same thing, that it is illegal to be out at night unless the boat in question has the proper lights. I know that is the law in Michigan, and I thought it might be a Coast Guard reg; in other words, it should apply everywhere.

They paddle out in the middle here also. They are not verry smart.you would never see them at speed and in waves.
Hope to god you havent had any beers if ya hit one. Life over and its there fault.Should be against the law for them to be far from the edge.

Any boat in US waters a night is required by US CG to have lights.

I'm positive that those rules will make them feel better when they ding my props! They have speed limits on the roads also...

Just remember one thing

boats without mechanical power have the RIGHT OF WAY :(

Sail boats, fishing boats, canoes and yes even kayaks have the right of way over ANY boat with mechanical power. :(

Now as far as the dusk timing goes, maybe they were on a suicide mission :)
I and another friend almost ran over one on a northern MN lake several years back.
He was out in the middle in wind produced waves of at least 2feet+
Worse part about it his kayak was BLUE???:( he blended in with the water and waves that we did not see him.
Needless to say he got swamped. Should have been lucky we both swerved otherwise he would have been mulch.

The problem that we have is that there is a rental fleet of them in Essex. They will cross the river instead of all together one at a time end to end like a line of ducks. When you come around the corner there they are and there is NO PLACE to go. I just aim for a gap and hope that the one in front paddles like a Mother F-er and the one in back back paddles. Hey they have every right to be out there like us but they should use some common sence!!! I am fairly sure that those damn glo sticks allthough better then nothing DO NOT work as a legal navigation light. They make legal ones with suctoin cups on them.

bicycles have the right of way too, but you don't want to see one in the passing lane on the interstate.
