Do I need to check anything after I lost by prop blade?
 

As you guys know I threw a blade off my merc 3blade cleaver. Should I have anything checked out before I put the new one on and run it? Its a merc 300x with about 35 hours on it.

I would check for a bent propshaft because of the imbalance. Not sure how touchy outboard shafts are, but I've seen MC6 propshafts bent after throwing a blade.

What hull type? How long was it run this way? If your running a tunnel
1 Blade runs out the water at high speeds anyway.I always check prop shaft
true just for the hell of it.Can't over do maintenance or inspections.

They are right. Check the prop shaft. They can be straightened and also remanufactured at a local tool shop since you already have a model.

Once the shaft is bent it is out of harmonic balance and the whipping action on a cleaver is tremendous. It will also require new berarings, races etc.

My 1" shaft was OK after throwing the blade.

It is on a 30ft Spectre and I ran it for about a minute or two. Should I just put a straight edge on it. What about the seals?

If you take it to a machine shop they can do a "TIR" or a total indicator runout. This reading tells how far out of "truly being straight" the shaft is. Again they can be straightened.

Rolling it like a cue stick on a seemingly flat surface does not tell the whole story.

take the drive down, check and mag everything...look very close at bearings and races....at the very least you'll have labor and seals in it...WAY CHEAP insurance...our #1 cause of drive failure is prop issue(s).

I think the tollerance is less than 10thou. There is no way you will see that with a straight edge. Just run down to your local dealer and have them measure the run out. It's really easy to do. Less than 10 minutes per drive including setup.
