Horizontal Tabs

There was a thread a while ago, actually a picture of my boat in a thread, that started a long discussion about the way my tabs are mounted, horizontal. I was reading a review of the new Fountain Sport Cruiser in Power and Motor Yacht and found this little tid bit.
"Fountain even has a trick for mounting the trim tabs to get more leverage while reducing wetted sruface drag; placing them horizontally across the transom instead of at an angle parallel to the bottom." Fountain isn't the only one that knows that trick. |

Mine aren't exactly "horizontal" but they aren't set up as an extension of the running surface either. Will Smith apparrently knew that "trick" too.

Re: Horizontal Tabs
I first saw that many years ago on the back of Velocity Race Boats...not sure if all Velocity's are set up this way or just the Race Boats. Hmmmmm. Wonder if all boats would benefit from this tab placement? Or just certain hull types?

Re: Horizontal Tabs
Every Velocity I"ve seen has them mounted horizontally. Before I mounted my tabs, I called Baja and asked them about placement. They recomended to NOT mount them horizontally. Don't know why, but I took their word for it and mounted them parallel to the bottom.

Re: Horizontal Tabs
I wonder if its because Velocity, Fountain run pad bottoms where Baja is a straight Vee?

Re: Horizontal Tabs
mine are flat (horizontal). that is also good for transom lift without drag.
