Project Complete... Painting my Checkmate

I actually finished it May 29 and splashed it that afternoon. What a totally different boat with color and shine. I kinda liked the factory color scheme and decided to keep it the same. Also, if there is ever an accidental chip in the paint, it will be hard to see because it is the same color underneath. I did all the work myself except the final sanding of the fiberglass repairs on the transom, and the spraying of the paint. There is a lot of self satisfaction looking at a finished project that you did most of yourself. Hard work does pay off.....

Pics 1,2, and 3
The boat was clear coated by one of the previous owners. The clear was peeling on the white and black gel coat and had turned a cloudy white on the yellow. You can see in pic 2 where I had started sanding the clear off. It also had exhaust holes that were cut out by the last owner for his monster power, and holes from 2 f-ugly plastic bayliner looking swim platforms. All of which had to be filled. I plan on a Extreme Marine platform in the future.

More peeling clear, look how bad the yellow stripe looks in the first pic. In #3, I started filling holes. I LOVE fiberglass work.

Ready to goto the paint shop. They did the final sanding on my glass work, and put 3 painters on this at once while spraying the yellow.

After the yellow, they sprayed the black, then the white. Ready to go home, I had them put on the decals first.

Done, ready to go. I'm still waiting on some rubrail for the transom. It was cut for the exhaust holes that got filled.
