New boats home ... sort of
Well, I put the Formula in storage today so I could bring the new boat home. I had an 8:00am appointment with the hauler to pick up the Formula. Went to start it and the batteries were dead (I'd pulled the shore power when I emptied the boat and after all the heavy rain the bilge pumps ran them down, the wind blows water in through the air inlets). Charged the batteries and fired it up, and the port motor is idling like s%&t. Call the hauler to cancel the pick-up. Pulled the distributor cap and sprayed it with some WD-40, put it back, checked all the plug wires, and it fires back up. Took it down the creek and out onto the river so see how it was running and it went fine so I called the hauler, made a new appointment for 10:00, and headed off to meet him. It ran fine all the way but with the humidity/fog it was hard to see very far once I got out on the bay. Guess it was just the mega humidity from the last couple of days, as once the motors got some heat in them they were fine.
Went to the other marina to get the Scorpion ready to drop in. I decided to have them put it in with the travel lift as their ramp is too short for a big boat, and my truck is really a bit marginal to tow that much weight down to Sandy Point to launch. I checked everything over, put in the drain plug, and fired both motors with just a quick burp to make sure they would start. I ran a couple other errands and came back at 1:00 when it was scheduled to be dropped in, and it was already floating and tied to the dock. I fired both motors again and let them idle when I untied it ... and they died. The stbd motor fired right back up, the port motor was dead. It wouldn't refire no mater what I tried, so I limped it back to my dock on the stbd motor (it's only 1/4 mile up the creek from the marina). I've gotten it to refire, but only if it's out of the water. (more on it's errant behavior is at http://forums.screamandfly.com/forum...threadid=61492 .
So, the new boat is home ... bt I still can't actually USE it. I'm not sure if this is progress or not ....

Re: New boats home ... sort of
Greg, that sounds like my boating story so far. So how's the Vette?
I had mine in the water two weeks ago and had a brand new battery fail on me, even though it started the motor with ease an hour earlier on the hose.
Stinson says he's gonna be done with my hatches tomorrow, so this weekend is my maiden voyage, I hope. My wife is already starting to mention getting a Formula Sunsport for next year. The Cig better run or I'll be in a crusier soon....

The Vette's pretty much done with the fab stage, need to stop messing with the boats so I can blow it apart and paint the frame ... then start to put it all back together for real
Good luck with the Cig test (and if not, I do have an extra Formula laying around <LOL>).
