Banana Gear reduction starters

How many of you run gear reduction starters on you big blocks and what has been there life expectincy.I had a major break down with one today and was just wondering if these things are reliable or should I look into something different. The starters in my boat are 1 year old and I figure that I should get morer seasons out of them than 1.Any input will be appreciated.

Re: Gear reduction starters

Bill Sorry about your problem. We installed many of the gear reduction starters and I feel they are much better then the big starters. If it were me I would stick with it. Were you able to use the hand crank?
