What is the operating costs of turbines? I was always under the impression that turbines are generally more reliable than piston engines and that the major concern was cracking fan blades. Someone educate me.

Re: Big white MTI
Will try to get some pics tomorrow, boat is 44' and has a four man enclosed canopy w/ a/c and escape hatch into the tunnel, turbines are made by MTT, has the Buzzi straight surface drives with a rudder for steering, boat is a 2004 and is all white, heard that it will run in the 170 mph range. I don't know what the operating costs are but the turbines can run on a variety of different fuels but if the motors ever break I can't imagine you can just pick up the phone and get any old shop to send someone down. Boat is very nice looking...Matt

The cost to run it must be high because he almost set three sail boats on fire last time he was parking at the marina... The problem is those turbine burn almost as much gas at idle as they do WOT, so think how your rig would drink if it was WOT whenever the key was on. However if you can afford to turn it it should run 2000-3000 hours between $70-80k overhauls. Ho yes, we haven't talked about putting the power to the water yet, wierd trannys set ups and $10k props... :D:D:D |
