Looking for 383 marine crate motors
A buddy of mine blew a motor in his 26 Sutphen and would like to upgrade with a pair of stroker small blocks.
Does anyone out there make a nice 383 stroker crate motor. He wants to be able to make a phone call and get a pair delivered this week.
Thanks,
Kurt

Not sure if he wants to look at this but GM Performance Parts has the ZZ383 crate motor that pumps out 425hp@5400rpm and 460ft-lbs@4500 for less than 4900.00.
Check out ZZ383 crate motor

Kurt I am with the Scorpions on this one. Unless he is looking for a radical 383 (read loss of reliability) then why not go with the stock Scorpions and have almost the same power, fuel injection, warrantee, and all the other "benifiets"??
Oh ya see what happens when your Dog runs on my Donzi!!!!! She does not know the power

Re: Looking for 383 marine crate motors
Would the cam be a good choice?
In Dennis Moore's book it's listed as the top choice for a highly modified 350 or HP 383 engine. Same cam is listed under Crane's p/n as 190641 and grind number HR-296-2S-12IG.
I don't think the ZZ383 would be a bad choice. It already has brass core plugs. The aluminum heads and intake will be trouble in salt water but ok in fresh. Would require religous flushing if used in salt.
As for reliability, this engine has to endure GM's endurance test. Full throttle run for 200 hours, cycling beteen max torque and max hp. If it didn't pass, it wouldn't be sold.
My only concern would be the valve material. May require different valves. I'd look up the part number listed and see what the valve are made of.
