If it's true, maybe it to help cover the cost of the permits, setting up all of the timing equipment, paying the people to operate it, ect. I'm sure it cost some coin to put on this event.

Key West, Florida – November 23, 2002 – Outerlimits continues its hold on the World
Champion titles winning both the Outlaw Performance V class and the Outlaw
Performance 2 class at the APBA Key West World Championship Races.
In the Outlaw Performance V class, Outerlimits 42 GTX driven by Bob Russell of Seattle
Washington and throttled by Mike Fiore, president of Outerlimits won the World
Championship.
A 37 Outerlimits ‘Obsession’, driven by Harry Turner and throttled by Daniel Dropski
won the World Championship in the Outlaw Performance 2 class.
All in all, it was a great week and a great event for the Outerlimits group.
