My only negative thought (I wouldn't be me without one...eh?) is the reference to Brucee, Jon Bongiovi, etc and that club they started in. Based on their recent political shenanigans, naive posturing, and disengenuous tree hugging while flying in fuel guzzling private jets.... I think the club should be renamed in their honor....... "The Stoned Phonies".

So true! I always wondered how Ted Turner could be considered an enviornmentalist while he's cruising in his private jet, living in 5 houses, driving 20 cars. And then he has the nerve to tell us we have to cut back.

T2x
If the Phoney Baloneys decide to go back and sing at that place, I hope nobody slams the door because that dump will fall in on them.
See if Kerry digs them out.

Almost a year later....

Progress is really being made here.

Foundations are being poured and restaurants are being opened.

I snapped some photos that were displayed in the casino.

It brings you back into the time when Asbury was really the Vacation Hot Spot of the Jersey Shore.

Here is a link with another 58 photos of Asbury Park taken today: Click here for the Photo Album

Sharky......the real name for crusing was THE CiRCUIT...I spent a lot
of time there as a kid as my brother was 4 years older than me and
they would let me ride with them.

When I got my license we also would go and race light to light..
I had a 69 Z-28.

The place sure went to hell.

What really amazes me is how many people on OSO from so many different places are from this area, or close enough to know all the
old hangouts...I.E. ...Ships wheel, Stone Pony, Beach House,Headliner
and The Royal Manor.

I imagine with real estate being what it is today, Asbury has to come
back to life.

Sharkey-

This was an awesome post for me. I grew up and spent the first 23 yrs of my life in a town called Fair Haven about 15 miles from Asbury. I worked in Sea Bright at beach clubs (Sands, Surfrider) and then bars (Ichabods, Donovans Reef) and picked up garbage in Spring Lake on Ocean Avenue.

It has been a while since I have seen Asbury and this hurts....man, I remember going there as a kid and it was a mini amusement park. There ws an indoor ferris wheel, merry go round, bumper cars, etc., in fact, wasn''t there a small coaster outside? What happened to all that? In fact, the first girl I ever kissed was from Lincroft on that Ferris Wheel on a day trip from Seashore Day Camp.

What are the plans for it - is there a renovation plan underway? What a shame...such a beautiful area - I can't believe it is this run down - especialyu when you cross a bridge into one of the wealthiest towns in NJ.

Thanks for sharing...just pulled back a sh*tload of memories!! BTW, when were you 18? You may have seen me in my black IROC with my $3k system and Stevie B pounding. We had the ugly purple and white varsity jackets on

The good 'ole days Mike.

Remember the reverse lights signal?

They just re-opened the old Xanadu Club under the name Circuit. I would think they were referring to what the area was called back in the day....

Ship Wheel is now a nice restuarant.
Stone Pony is still the Stone Pony
Beach House as in Point Pleasant Beach on NJ Ave is now Condos.( I grew up on that street.)
Headliner is still the Headliner but really expanded.
The Royal Manor? WOW! Now that is going back!
The Royal Manor has been leveled for some time now and just an empty lot ever since....
Casablanca........Townhouses
Trade Winds also now leveled for Condos...
