Re: Will a Avalanche Tow a****

I have a 3/4 ton Avalanche with the 8100 Vortec and 4:10 rear end. If the roads are pretty flat and he's going to keep it under 60 MPH, I say he can do it.
And "ought" is spelled with an "o".

I pull a 28'6" Sunsation with an Avalanche 2 wheel drive with no trouble I have a buddy who pulls a 35 Fountian with a 4wheel drive he says he has no trouble with it. Still lighter than the Sea Ray.

Low gear? upgrade brakes, performance chip, exhaust and intake. Make sure the boat is balanced properly so theres not too much tounge weight on the truck, but enough to give it good traction to pull the boat.
Overall, not the best idea, put possible on local roads. Of course the legality of it is another story.

Re: Will a Avalanche Tow a****

Madcow's truck was 1500 Half Ton Avalanche with coil rear suspension and larger custom wheels and wider, low profile; less weight capacity tires; and on overloaded hitch.

Had it been the 2500 Avalanche, I think he would have been much better off.

I have NO complaints about how my 2500 8.1L 496 Avalanche tows 12.5K lbs, except the gas mileage. Leaf spring rear suspension, 4L85 Tranny, and 4.10 rear end, aided with 1000 lb AirLift airbags, and it does a great job. I am not going to tell you I like it better than a dually, and plan to upgrade to at least a GMC 2500HD with a diesel someday; but what I got for now is great.

Can't beat 0.0% financing and a wholesale discount when I bought it either.

when my dually trans was broke and in the shop, i needed to move this boat out of my shop so i hooked it to my ford ranger 4 cyclinder and pulled it around the block, it did ok but was in 4 low and looked funny as hell. and i had the tongue dolly holding most of the weight
