I think they are both 24 degree hulls but the Velocity has a pad where the Baja does not. The pad is the reason for the extra speed, harsher ride and level trim. Many folks say that the Velocity does not need the planes under most circumstances but they do come in handy on those occasions where you do need them. Adding the options to the Velocity (to match the Baja) would certainly make the price difference more significant. Another factor, although minor, is that I have no less than (6) Outlaw 24's for sale within a reasonable distance from my location. The Velocity boats are scarce despite the fact that they are built within 100 miles from my home (Sanford Fl, right?)

I've never been in a Velocity but I can tell you my Baja handles the sh!t out of rough water. I have no blistering problems what-so-ever and the total length of the boat is 26' w/swim step. Baja doesn't include the swim step in their lengths.

Oh, and look at the bottom of the Outlaw again, it does have a triangular shaped pad.... about 5' in length and 10" wide at the transom... I can see mine from here!!! I'll bet the Baja weighs nearly 700-800 lbs more.

Another thing to look at is the trailer each is sitting on. Mine is on an Eagle... and it's seen better days. Rolls down the road perfect, but doesn't look the best.

Does anybody know when Velocity started including the swim platform into the length or have they always included it? I checked the Velocity website but there is nothing there concerning previous model years. Any online sources for historical Velocity info?

I have owned a velocity 260 24 foot without the swim platform. IT out performs the Baja 240 in rough water in my opinion . also a friend who had one sold it and bought a Velocity after running with me some. you can find historical information on www.velocitypowerboats.com speedball

I bought a new 1997 velocity at the 97 Miami boat show. It was the 26. They did not start calling them the 280's until the 1998 year model. If it is called a 260 or 280 it is exactly that (with the swim platform). If it was called the 26 then it is what is now called a 280. The 260 and the 280 have exactly the same size cockpits but the 260 has 2' less in the cabin.

i think the velocity will out handle the baja in the rough you just have to free the boat up and let it go if have a 280 and i hav e found that slow in the rough is not a good ride get the boat up on top and it is a good ride

I had a '91 Baja 240 and a '94 Velocity 26' (280) and I loved both. Personally, I viewed the Baja and an "entry level" boat and the Velocity a true "performance boat". My Velocity handled the rough pretty well in my opinion..........
