Ouch!!! Superhawk 50 on Champlain last Sunday
3 Attachment(s)
Normand,
An aquintense from Montreal showed up at Thayer Beach Sunday. Thanks for his wife cleaning the drool after he walked me and the Doc thru his new rig. He says that it's nimbler than his Predator 60 he had for the last 4 years... and he can handle it by himself now... I guess we all have our crosses to bear. It's a 2002 with trip big yanmars and trimax 2 speed drives. Outside props are Rollas 5 blades and middle one is a 6 blade. I mentioned to him he might not want to hit anything... Also the rudders and air intakes to aerate the props look like works of art. Top speed he said was 60 MPH and he has a trailer for it.... So now my 6 year old son is asking even more often what my pregnant wife has taught him... "Papa when are we getting a Sunseeker?"... Here is a picture of a similar rig and mills. |

www.sunseekerny.com <- another of the sites i've done :D
i'll be happy to answer any question you have about sunseeker and yes there was one 48 superhawk that did high 70s. Trip 575scis and i believe shorty lowers. |

Nice boats. I am not gonna bore you again with the advantages of Trimax but I'll say this: forget about drives breaking again... ever. The Superhawk is a nice blend of comfort and performance but it will not go 60. On most days, under normal load conditions, it will run 55 mph and I've seen 58 mph with 2 people, fumes in the tank and no water aboard.
If you want to go 60 in that type of boat, take a look at a Fountain 48. Not as nicely finished as the Sunseeker and I'm sorry, it doesn't look that good either. But, same power with a bit more beam and more room gets you at least 5 mph more. Respect. If you want to go 80 in that sort of boat, take a look at the Hustler 49. Quad Yanmars with Trimax and we've seen 78 mph and up to 84 mph on the prototype. Actually, I believe Hustler are working on a triple version of the 49 which is going to have a much larger cockpit with lounge seating "a la Sunseeker" and a sleeper cabin under the cockpit "a la Fountain". The projected top speed with triples is 70 mph. Look out for it in Miami 2005. |

Re: Ouch!!! Superhawk 50 on Champlain last Sunday
Spent a little time on the Hustler at the docks in Miami last year. While it's a pretty neat engineering exercise, I thought that it.....um, well....."lacked refinement". I doubt if I would EVER say that about a Sunseeker, though.
How can a 48' Fountain have more room than a 60 Sunseeker? The beam would have to be at least 20% wider.... TriMax's = Bulletproof. |

G.L -
I saw that boat on Sunday hauling A$$ south toward Mallets Bay as we were heading to the Turtle. Great looking boat. I have to vote with the rest of your family on that one. If I could swing a Sunseeker it would be the boat of choice. There is a Sunseeker dealer in Virgin Gorda and every year I go there and drool up and down the docks.................When is the tiger going up for sale? |
