Default 22 Foot 1996 Scarab, good?

I have about 20k, not much compared to some of those 100k poker run boats but enough for a good time. I came across two of the same boats, a 1996 22 foot scarab, I think they look great and are powerful with a 434 Mag. Anybody have any exsperiance with this boat? O yeah and if anybody finds a good boat for under 20k let me know!

Thanks!

Phil

Its a good boat. Friend of mine had one with a 540 in it. Ran likea bat o of hell and handled the offshore stuff pretty well for its length. There built tough. You ought to be able to find a couple of good deals out there.

Have a survey done and go from there...You might be getting a perfect boat or more problems than you will want to deal with...My friend had one in '96 and Shawn is right it does run like a bat outta hell

You staying safe? Hows the job going?

I had a '96 22 Scarab with a 454. Great boat and had alot of fun with it. I bought the boat new and kept it for two years and re-sold it for $21.5K in '98. Check with other Scarab owners on here, they should know what the going price is now. Good luck, and and as I said before, great boat.

Do a search here on OSO. Some where built better than others. I had a 95 model. For 22' boat & the 454 she'll run great. Look around & you'll find a better deal than 20k. I beat my 22 pretty hard & she did show several stress cracks, also the stringers had small cracks when I sold it. The 22 is fast enough, fun enough & affordable.

Im not a platinum member, so I am unable to veiw the pictures, unfortunately because the boat sounds awesome! There is one 1996 22 for 16k on ebay right now, its absolutly mint, spotless, perfect.... I dont know what the final bid will reach when its all done. The other boat is on OSO classifieds, 15,500, looks nice but doesnt look like it had the care of the ebay boat. My options are endless under 20,000 I just need a cuddy that will sleep at least two. And about 60mph or more is a major good thing

Thanks for all the input, its making me want to whip out the check book now!

Phil

Cuddy? Ha! If you must have a cuddy this is not the boat for you. I don't consider anything in front of the helm anything but storage. The only reason to sleep in the bow would be in an emergency. ie. break down, caught in pouring rain... It is tiny. A after speakers, amps, life jackets... there is no room for anything else especially sleeping. I love mine. Its fast, reliable, and handles great and we don't sleep on it.
