New motor from mercury

Anyone know if there is any truth to the rumor that mercury is going to introduce a 600-635hp motor after the first of the year?

If anyone knows lets hear the details.

That would be the new 600sci. Its replacing the 575sci.

Do you know where to find out about the details on the 600, or when it is expected to be available?

Go to thread .. new merc 600 release... There you will find the answers :D . On the drive question. A beefiest XR drive yet. There put many many hours of gruling tension on the drive to make sure it can take it in before the introduction.

If all of you guys are sick of the “tick tick BOOM” time bomb Bravo, why do everyone of you (other than C Spray) insist upon, or hag those that consider something other than, a Bravo?

There have been far too many threads to count on alternatives and everyone chimes in “don’t leave Mercury!”

It just amazes me how much $ everyone is willing to spend on a continuous basis to keep the weak links on the boat.

The 600 hp engine should be a great engine if they add an inter-cooler as it will eliminate the issues with the 575 but the drive is more than suspect. But hey, everyone will just step up to the SSM#6 right?

You are partly correct and incorrect on the resale as there are a lot of boats that cannot sale because they do have the Bravos. Examples are Catamaran boats where even though the power is not extreme (575's) the un-educated consumer knows that is a crappy setup and will leave no room for future upgrades in hp.

I see the situation in reverse in the performance yacht market as boats that do not have our system are far harder to sale than the ones that do. Different markets different mentality but both funny to watch.

As for parts and service, that also is not an issue as all of the manufacturer’s have inventory and a UPS account! I'm sure that there is a service center of some sorts near every major boating area and they are believe it or not more than qualified to service most anything on a boat, even surface drives.

We have a propeller guard which makes it more difficult (never say impossible as there is a person out there that can prove you wrong) to jump and land onto a propeller. Length, OAL is what 3” longer than a Bravo on a Stellings? Not really worth making an issue of.

You though are more than correct in expecting, not assuming, that the boat should perform with in normal parameters reliably without costing you both wasted time and $ to do so. There are a lot of parameters where the Bravo can be abused both intentionally as well as un-intentionally and the boater does suffer with these unnecessarily.
