Re: Considering New Nor-Tech. Need opinions

3DO,

Congrats on a cool boat. According to Nortech, Cyclone was built two years ago, and was one of the 1st 3600's. Since then, the boats have gotten alot lighter, as their lamination schedule has been changed. This is the reason we ordered a new 3600. The engines are 1200 HP on 93 octane. The boat has run high 160's. We can change the pulleys and make 1400, but its really only good for acceleration, as the revs set at 6300. We run a 1.24 gear w/ 37" Merc 5 blades, and spin them 6300. I still haven't seen anybody post a speedo thats sitting at 168. I think we're all arguing just to argue. You're knocking our boat and engines for only being documented at 165 MPH, and we're discussing several other NorTechs running the same speeds. What is Bull**** about that?

Re: Considering New Nor-Tech. Need opinions

3DO,
I usually do not give involved in these arguments, but this time I could not help it, since I am the one that built those engines. When they were originally dynoed, they made a corrected horsepower of 1194, with a uncorrected horsepower of 1176. The day the boat ran 164 mph I was driving the boat when the transmission let go and almost put us on our head. Personally, I have no desire to do it again. This is supposed to be fun and I am not looking to die over it. I am still very young and have a lot of things that I would like to do. At 164, the boat was still pulling. We have since made a considerable pulley change and added 100 octane to the tanks. Dustin Whipple estimates the power to be just over 1400hp. The boat has definetely run faster than 164, but just because it was not plastered all over OSO doesn't mean that it is not true. The gears and props are just as they were when the boat left Nortech 2 years ago. We have never tuned on the motors, change to Herring props ( which Tron has repeatedly told us is worth several mph) or done anything else to try to make the boat faster than it is. I believe that there is plenty left in the boat. The owner has never had a boat this fast and if he got hurt in the boat going that fast, I would feel responsible. Also, there is nothing around here that can run with the boat like it is, so any additional speed would be futile. No one was trying to brag. We have put an unbelievable amount of time into developing those motors and we are very proud, as anyone else would be. We just thought that someone like yourself, who obviously knows a lot about both boats and engines and knows what it takes to make a boat go that fast and make motors with that much power live that long, would appreciate it. Sorry for any confusion.

Eddie

First, buy a Nor-tech best boat Co. on the planet. Second, in the pegged trailer DVD, if you can take your eyes off the woman in pink for a second, look at the woman standing behind her. The true Nor-tech fans should know who that is. Name her and there could be a bottle of Goose for ya. Salesmanship and 3DO you don't count.
