Re: 3a's-tools/manuals

I have a workshop manual for #3's... the only real "specialty" tool you need is the special socket to remove the nose cone. The drive can be disassembled and set up using off the shelf tools. There are some specialty tools that make it easier.. But I did mine with regular tools. I made the socket to remove the cone. I'd be happy to loan the tool and manual for a one time basis... but I don't want them to go away forever.

What are you trying to do? reseal the lower? Completely disassemble?

That's a big job for just a "look-see".......
Number 3's are very sturdy compared to bravos... if you aren't having any problems with them... I'd just change the fluid and put them back on if they are off.

You can easily inspect the top gears by removing the cover.

Re: 3a's-tools/manuals

We had a hard time trying to find anyone who had the tools forsale for 3a&#5 drives. My drive mechanic that works for me made all the tools himself(he's also a machinist) . Mercury didn't have any in stock and would not do a run of tools until they had ten orders.
Besides they wanted a rediculous amount of money for them.
