T2- I did read your entire post thoroughly a couple times before replying. I only added what I did because I didn't think the reason behind the early canopy failures was clearly made as cause and effect, and aszumed that anyone reading it would think that they were just not strong enough to withstand the water safely. I was trying to augment what you said more than anything. No offense intended.

Canopy discussion aside ...
When it comes to Tiger's velcro lap belts, you have to consider probability: Is there a greater chance of getting bounced out of a boat in, for example, rough water or a hard turn than there is of that boat rolling over in rough water or a hard turn?
No doubt, you are toast if you're in an non-canopied boat that rolls and you're velcroed or otherwise belted in place. But what is more common, passengers getting spit out of open-cockpit boats, or open-cockpit boats rolling?
If rolling is less common, than you're ignorning the odds in fear of a rarer, but decidedly deadlier occurence if you pass on the belts. But if rolling is more common (and we have to keep this discussion to open-cockpit boats), you'd be out of your mind to wear anything resembling a seat belt.
