insurance question

2 weeks ago i was in an accident.
i was following a chevy 1500 that is following a bonehead in a ford escort doing 40 mph in a 60 mph 2 lane highway. im driving a dodge 2500 4x4. i see a stretch of open highway ahead and make my move to pass. about the time my front bumber is even with the rear of the chevys drivers door , the chevy decides to pass too  i hit the brakes as im getting pushed towards the ditch and the chevy eventually hits me. pushed the chevys bed in an inch or so and put a bunch of tire swirl marks on her truck just in front of her rear wheel. i had some scuff marks around my front fender but nothing that wont buff out. she said she would call her husband and insurance company when she got home. i suggested NOT report it to her insurance company as they will just raise her rates but its up to her. told her not to worry about my damage. we exchange insurance info and go on our way. i found out today that an insurance company called my workplace last wendsday about the accident after i had left for the day. dont know if it was mine or hers since it was after hours nobody wrote anything down.

my question is , should i report this to my insurance company even though i wasnt at fault?if i do report it , could my rates go up simply because i was involved?

Report it! I heard many horror stories of people saying they won't report or will pay for damage then turn around and try to sue you. It was not your fault so your rates should not go up. Also, document the entire event as you have above. Make sure you include time of day, weather conditions, day/night, etc. The more detailed you are the more credabiltiy you will have. I carry a camera with me for my work but it is always in the car so I can take pictures to back up my statement should anything happen. Call you insurance company now!
