Congrat's - had a WTF moment and started reading from the beginning of the thread as most of your postings are more than useful...
To that end, Post #5 is probably the most honest answer ever posted on OSO.LOL.....(I clicked "LIKE" to a posting from 13 years ago - must be winter)

Just went out couple weeks ago so I upgraded. Check this baby out it snaps on the top of a 9V battery and with the higher voltage the LED's are driven harder, it's bright as fak . . . . . Oh this thing was $5 with the battery lol . . . . See ya in thirteen more years

Interesting thread.......
I bought a radio (set in a model of the Mark Twain paddle steamer) in 1974. Nothing special, just a gimmick. Cost about $5 from memory. Didn't use it much and pulled it out of the cupboard in1989 to give it away and it still worked!
One 9v battery, no leakage and worked fine. The battery brand was a 'Berec' and I heard a story that Eveready bought the Berec battery company just to stop them making batteries that last indefinitely!
