Outboard motor question
 

I need a midsized 2 stroke outboard for a NEW boat that I am buying. Where the hell do I look to find one at a decent price. I am looking for 115-140max hp. All the dealers I have talked to have given me off the wall pricing ...............someone please help.

I would love to but the damn coast gaurd plate says otherwise. Also this is not for an offshore boat. This is for my Ice breaking duck boat. The hull is 1/4 plate aluminum.

come on somebody has to have a good source for this stuff.

Cowl or decals are easy to change :rolleyes:

I once had a 17' bow rider that LOOKED like it had a 150 hp Johnson on it like the tag said was max.
But I could kick a$$ on any 150 Merc around. Best one was a couple of guys in a Checkmate with a 175 Merc and my son (13 at the time) and I in our Wagon Queen Family Truckster with the "150 Johnson" :rolleyes: (you know the type with the 2 foot high air brake called a windshield). I honestly didn't beat them , but they couldn't lose me either. They kept looking back and I was still there and just as close. They finally stopped and flagged me down and had to ask. Hey , what do I know...it was just my "Big Johnson" :D :D :D

call dave gilmore at tnt I have purchased two pair of outboards from him. I have owned jonrude's and yami's but in my opinion you should check out the merc 4 stroke 115. I have an 04 on my flats boat and love the engine. runs all day on 6 gal.

If cruise speed fuel economy is a big issue to you, then get a 4 stroke.
If silent idle operation is a big issue to you, then get a 4 stroke.

If a normal two stroke fits your needs for economy and sound levels, then get an old-tech two stroke.

I do not recommend the 3 cylinder Mercs.
I actually prefer the Johnrudes in that power category.
The suzook 140 is a good motor but a tad heavy.

Thats a great looking boat! Built tough. Whatever brand you choose I would go with the most power the hull is rated for.I see a lot of these Tohatsu's on commercial fishing boats around here.Try http://www.onlineoutboards.com Also see a lot of Yamahas and there are quite a few 03 and 04 leftovers for sale.

Thanks for all the help.

I need to have a 2 stroke due to extremely cold weather and shallow mucky water. I have watched a number of four strokes overheat and get warped heads due to the differernt cooling system. They are also hard to start in cold weather under 20 degrees, brrrrrrrrrrr.


What would you guys choose a yamaha 115 carb or an 115 evinrude direct inject both ar the same money and 2 stroke.
