Ford F350 PSD Oil Pan ????
 

Anyone know how hard it is to replace the pan? Do you have to pull the motor to do this like in Most Fords? Mine rotted out :mad: :mad: This is a 1999 Ford F350 psd.

I heard it was revised to raise the engine and or tranny only. Still like 5-6 book hours plus about $300 for the pan (at www.1stfordparts.com)

sEA Ray I sure hope you are right. I would happily drop the pan and let it sit for a day dripping oil out of it so that I do not have to pull the motor. I am not sure I know anyone that has a lift big enough to pull one of these motors..... Lifting it should be no problem. Thanks for the link to the Ford Parts place. I will try and give them a call tomarrow and see if they have any input as well.

Find out what resonable is on the labor. If he is cheap enough I would rather not get my hands dirty.... :D:D

Just put a new PS motor in my truck a year ago. But it was a '95 with 376000 and still ran good rings were just shot. Anyway, a regular cherry picker will work without the transmission and Ford sells some special sealer you use WITHOUT a gasket that is some really good stuff, atleast thta's what it calls for on 95's.

had one done ,they pulled the nose and the engine. pan rusted out. fixed it under warranty. 1999 f350 dump.

Since I sold my 99 7.3 to a friend you sparked enough intrest in me to do a search over on the Diesel Stop board if you need the link just ask :cool:

1st Quote I found

2nd from a Ford Tech
"You have to pull the engine out to do it correctly. I have slid them out in the truck if the transmission is removed and the engine is lifted up as high as it will go. You have to drop the pickup in the pan before you remove the pan if you do it in the truck. You will have to remove the turbo to lift the engine and also for engine removal. The oil dripping down will cause the sealer to not cure correctly and will leak later on so engine removal is recommended method. I have done many on both gas and diesel engine. Most have snow plows or sit a lot. Before it gets to that point keep a eye on the pan for rust spots and sand them down and repaint to prevent this repair. There is a special diesel sealer from Ford to reseal the pan as there is no gasket and it must set up for 24 hours before you put oil in it or roll the engine back over if you remove it. Any other sealer will leak. 50k for mileage on a 99 doesn't help as the truck sits a lot."

I am unfortunatly out of the warrantee in years. Not milage but years. I am also damn close on milage as well.
