Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas from the EASTSIDE

Christmas is now two hours past as I sit here in the largest Chinatown I've ever been in, Beijing. I was so surprised to see Christmas trees and decorations, wasn't expecting that.

The wife and I had to rendezvous with my good buddy and his better half who flew in from Hong Kong, as I flew in today from Los Angeles. Perfect timing, our planes arrived 5 minutes apart and we met within 10 minutes at the baggage claim.

Tomorrow and the next few days, I'll be off to visit sites like the Forbidden City, Great Wall and then spend time, including New Years Eve (my wedding anniversary) in Hong Kong.

Looks like they've opened the kimono to Westerners over there.
I was last there in '96. Had a long-term gig that took me through HK, Taipei, Seoul, and Singapore. HK was the first stop from LA, but was fogged in. We were running out of fuel, and got permission to land in Beijing. Even though it was past midnight, we were ORDERED to keep the blinds down on the windows. They were DEAD serious. Also weird - it felt like the runway was something like cobblestones.

I didn't look out the windows.

Gary (Cigarette1), Gary's better half, myself, and my better half have been having a blast here in Beijing for the holidays. This is our last day here and then we're off to Hong Kong tomorrow. When Gary told me he wanted to come with me this year (I come every year to visit family) I thought he was just kidding. I guess not! We've had picture perfect days ... but cold as heck!! We're talking 10 degrees for a HIGH! We were on the Great Wall yesterday and the wind was blowing. I was thinking frost bite the whole time we were there. Pics to follow.
