Re: 2005 f150 or dodge 1500 hemi
I would go with a 3/4 ton for sure, not that a 1/2 ton won't do the job, but pushing the max weight isn't going to make for the best situation (ie. braking, ride comfort, etc). Also getting a ticket for being over the gvw isn't cheap!!!! We bought a 3/4 ton diesel and wouldn't look back. The mpg is great and nothing like having the extra torque when needed. We towed to Flathead lake in Montana this year and even cruising in the Rockies was a piece of cake!

Lukie,
You remember my truck, I'll tell ya it hauled Bruces Pantera like a dog plus I have been thru an ac unit every 15,000 miles and Dodge wont seem to get there act together and take responsibilty, I found a 04 F250 with 20,000 miles down here for 30,000 and it has the 6.0, I heard that the 03's had injector issues, but to date havent heard anything. Hopefully I will have it by the end of the week so I can do the writeoff deal that they are doing away with. I havent heard Bruce have anything majorly negative to say about his new rig, but dont do what you did in your last truck, go diesel, this time lol
Hope you Paulette, Christopher and especialy Gigi had a great holiday, give me a buzz

Lukie,
Contact via email. If you are going to be around I can stop by and fill you in on details about my f250. Ford is the way to go but I will tell you which one to get. Did'nt you already have a red Ford??? The Ford with a power-stroke pulls any Dodge backward in a tug of war. We did it a few years ago with a truck similar to mine against a Dodge and its Cummings power. Made the Dodge owner look really embarrassed.

Mike,
If it was not my daily driver I would most definitely take you up on that. Unfortunately I do not want to take the chance of something breaking nor should you being it is your daily driver as well. I can tell you that I witnessed the tug of war as it took place in Bayville New Jersey. Both trucks were 4x4 and Diesel. The Ford was a long bed standard cab and the Dodge was a Long Bed Extra Cab Dually. Some would say the Dodge would have had the advantage with six wheels down against the Ford's four wheels.
I really did take a liking to board member Sharkeymarine's Dodge Dually with the Cummings. The new body style is much nicer then the previous years. By nicer I mean the fit and finish. Good choice if you ask me.
Another friend has the four door standard bed 4x4 version of the GMC with the Duramax in it. He says he loves it but I have yet gotten the chance to take the ride in one. I was told by someone who has owned the two different versions of the Ford Powerstroke Engines, both 6.0 and 7.3. While the newer 6.0 is much quieter like all the other new diesels on the market he said the 7.3 version had more power and speed and that actually you could not compare the two of them at all. He said he would rather have the noise of the 7.3 then have a slug of the 6.0. Hope this helps some of you guys out.

All jokes aside, the trucks are pretty well all equal in power now no matter which make you buy...if you hook them up and have a tug of war it's more in knowing what your doing than it is which truck is stronger. If anyone wants to hook up to some toys with some Caterpillar 3196's I have I'll show you what power is
