One of the reasons that the Quatar boat may have "come apart at the seams" is that alot of boat builders don't put coring at this point in the hull. They put it above and below with nothing but a thick layer of glass at the bottom of the spray rail. Strength is also a function of the thickness of the composite and this would dictate that it would be the weak point if it had no coring.
I TRIED TO LEAVE YOU A MESSAGE BUT YOUR PHONE WAS FULL! I WAS ON MY SIDE IN MY 30 SPECTRE AT 90 WITH A STRONG CROSS WIND OFFSHORE AND I FEEL LIKE THAT SPRAY RAIL KEPT ME FROM GOIN OVER. I WAS THANKFUL THAT THE BOAT CORRECTED.

MAXIMUS AND I HAVE VERY LIMITED RACING EXPERIENCE, I HAVE THREE P CLASS RACES BUT WE SURE HAVE SEAT TIME IN CATS. WITH THE EXTRA SET OF ENGINES WE PLAN TO REALLY RUN THE BOAT. I ALSO PLAN TO SPEND A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TIME WITH JOHN IN THE BOAT DIALING THE BOAT IN.

WE ARE BOTH LOOKIN TO HAVE A GREAT TIME, THE STOCK CLASS IS A GREAT GROUP OF RACERS! I HOPE MY BOAT IS READY FOR MIAMI!

Like others have said, glad to see someone else has stepped up to the plate to bring some competition to the twin O/B cats. For a 32 to run those speeds is simply incredible. I have heard AMT's are rough water boats, but to run over 110 in a 32 with twin 2.5's is also a great acomplishment.

Did Gary's boat get added weight because it was under the required minimum or just because it was to fast? What is the weight for a 32'? I know some of the 28' skater pleasure boats are under 3600lbs. That is one reason they can run 120mph

I would bet most of the 28 Skaters are under or just at 3600lbs. Supposed to be 2100 dry less rigging, take the back seat out of the boat and I would think the boat should weight less than 3600lbs. I am curious to find out what mine weights.

Dan,

Do you have any photos from when the boat was being laid up at Doug's shop??? If you got them I would love to see them along with everyone else I am sure.

When Gary's boat was built SBI didn't have weight rules. When he killed the field at his first race is when the class called for added weight. Now it is 125# per foot. A 28' would have to weigh 3800# I think a 30' is 4050# and a 32' 4300#

Ryan That is fair. So The 32's are 250lbs heaver then the 30? Even at that they do seem faster. A 28'skater at 3800lb would be a rocket in the flat!

If you look at the resulst the 32s still show an advantage. Yes a 28' Skater will probably win in flat water with the right crew in it.

Besides the obvious the 32 has different strake configuration, wider tunnel with more aggessive angle of attack, 4.5 steps instead of 2, cg is moved further forward
