Looking for a place to move to
Requirements
1) Lots of Offshore Powerboats (clubs and racing)
2) Clear Water
3) 6+ month boating season
4) Structural Engineering Job
5) Wife wants mountains (overlooking water would be nice)
I like Sarasota, FL area, and she likes Orange Beach, AL, she has never been to Florida. She is from Oregon, but I want to stay on the East coast. I will be graduating in about a year and a half and that is probably my chance to move, I was set back for a while after my accident. I like the Boat stuff going on in the Chicago area from what I have heard, but when I go out on the weekends I want to see other boats. Here in the Clear Lake, TX area, if you go out in the boat you are going to atleast see other offshore boats.
My wife and I decided to start looking at our options now, so we can find a place and maybe visit there during the coming school breaks.
thanks in advance
Ernie

WHAT TYPE OF OFFSHORE BOAT DO YOU RUN IN THE MOUNTAINS? It was 78 hear in tampa today (thats t back weather i'll have ya know) not to hard to take... fly to the mountains for vacation live where you can boat all year. no state income tax in fl. either...

Wife just said "you really want to move to Florida, huh?" she doesn't seem too positive about it.
To someone form the Sarasota area:
What about North Port? The lots seem a lot cheaper there than in the Sarasota. We are going to either end up on a canal, or maybe out in the 'country' with a few acres.

I just left Pensacola yesterday and as hammered as EveryThing is right now it may be a good chance to go nab a piece of land cheap.

Re: Looking for a place to move to
Chicago and the states that surround Lake Michigan have thousands of offshore powerboats and finding them is no problem. The fresh water is great too.
The obvious drawback is the winter season but that just makes us appreciate our boats all the more.
Finding work around here is pretty easy too but if you can't tolerate the cold, don't move here.

Re: Looking for a place to move to
I just moved to Sarasota from Cincinnati about a year ago. How about tweleve months of boating? Going out today for the end of the year and tomorrow for the new year!!
I don't know much about North Port I live near downtown Sarasota and it is nice to be close to everything but like you said very pricey if you want to be on the water. I am just a few years older than you so I bought a fixer upper that is just four houses from the bay and plan on living here for a few more years while everything else is skyrockiting then buy something on the water (I have relatives that I could buy there house) or if not get the five acres inland.
Sorry no mountains! Everything else I am sure!
