I own the 2.5's. If you run the boat over 80 in bigger water the 2.5 shorty offer a more balanced and reliable offshore motor package. The 2.5 is a true race engine and can be propped to offer great acelleration. I had a set of consumer 2.5's with over 200 hours on them with out a powerhead failure. If you keep the rpms under 7,500 they become bullett proof. Also the 2.5 sportmaster are more durable. The 2.5 is sensative to weight vs the 3.0 liter which is not. Fuel load reduces top speed on the 2.5 but makes little difference on the 3.0 litr.

I burn 30gal/hr averaging 80 and change.

Mixing the fuel and gas is old school but I don't mind. Merc blend only.

The 300x is cool as well. Offers smart craft and easy shifting and idleing around the docks.

The AMT is a full bread race boat desearving a race engine.

I use pennzoil 100% synthetic. Since I changed I have not fouled a single plug, and they dont smoke as much.

If you want more info go to Scream and fly they are all outboards.

Being Green to the outboard familia there seems to be quite a few different 2.5's to choose from. By reading the posts above it seems the 2.5 is a better choice over the 300x for the AMT. I dont care about premixing, I just wasnt to be able to go out grab some throttle and be able to come back to the dock without calling in a SEATOW. Remember I'm DONE with blower motors!!! Thanks for everyones input.

Don't kid yourself....300x's are allaround friendlier and faster motors. much better midrange.

Unfortunatly after next months final run they will both be obsolete

I guess its they are not horrible. But I do know the 2.5's are a lot better on gas than the 300's. It doesnt have anything to do with my setup, if I run the boat over 5k for long stretches I really notice the gas going away, which is in the high to mid 70's depending on load. I will have it figured out by this summer.

I asked "the expert" on this question and he agreed that for this boat the 2.5 shorty is the best motor.

1. power to weight ratio the boat will fly better.
2. acceleration with prop options.
3. more reliable for offshore running.
4. cheaper to repair after warranty is up.
5. more fuel efficient.

good luck with the new boat.

I will say that in my opinion the spectre 30 is a better consumer boat.

The replacment is a higher Hp Version of The 250 XS

I agree that the Spectre is a beter consumer boat.

If you are sold on the AMT then take Ryan s advice he really know how to run the boat.

maximus

still like the 300x's

Dreamboater 5000rpm on my rig is over 80mph withthe 34'' and just a touch of trim. I think you will find a bunch of speed in your 28' this year. For sure you will need a set of 34'' 3blades
