Out here in Cali, building a home by a small custom builder is approx. $2.00 per foot withall the nice stuff.

Its a bargain here, thats why I love living here. Slower pace, about 5-10 years behind the times, great place to raise kids, casino's, boating around 10 months a year, tough to beat. We have alot of big Ind. moving in, alot of California people coming, build a 750k house, and pocket 1 mill. and have an additional 2000 sq.ft. Jeff

That is because it will blow down in the first hurricane that comes through and then you will be doing it all over again :D:D

We are building up in Maine and have been finding that most people even though we have cathedral ceilings they count the open area as sq footage that is not counted in the plans. So you pay more.... For our place that is going to be aprox 1800 sqft living space they are calling it 2300 sqft for the build costs. We are at about 300K finished done high end post and beam. I am sure this will go up as we build........ Who ever you pick make sure you go to houses that are being built at all stages, and finished if you can. I have noticed some builders houses look great the day the owner moves in but a year later they look like holly hell. Are the job sites clean, do all the nails hit the frame, are joints tight/even and so on.

That sounds about right. Dont forget about site work. It can go thru the
roof if you have to blast. my lake house is similar and was in that ballpark.
