Go ahead and talk to any old 8th AAF bomber crews and they'll agree on the Merlin. They were probably partial to the Wright Cyclone and Pratt&Whitney radials out on the wings but the thread is about RR.

The cars may be nice but there's nothing like the sound of the Merlin-powered Mustang coming across the airfield at 300 knots, ten feet off the runway.

Does anyone remember when the hydros were running the Merlins and Allisons?
Miss Budweiser ran Merlins before switching to the turbines.

That's ok. Your car manufacturer is probably using a supplier that also supplies parts to Rolls Royce so it's all in the family.

As for the cars...

I have a lot of experience with the Rolls Royce RB-211. Awesome engine, nothing like the sound of the 3-spool of the RB-211. Doug

Funny you mention that. I was just flipping through that IPC this morning. I've got some parts on my desk we're looking at.

I don't remember which model was used... The big models were the Phantoms... P I's P II's P III's. By the time they got to the P V and P VI's, ( The P IV was stictly a "royalty car" and wasn't available to the public) they just looked like stretched Silver Clouds. Unless you ordered one with a James Young Body. Or some other custom coach builder... But... above all.... THEY'RE STILL ENGLISH LEAKERS!............ :D

The open driver/closed body is called a " Sedanca de ville"........ :D
