I might have a job opportunity in Carrollton TX.
Anyone know anything about the area?

I know I'm posting in the wrong place, and this thread should be "poofed" (this belongs in the bilge). but, I'm looking for some help from the brethern here. Sorry Steve, I put it here first just for a little exposure...
How is the housing, cost of living?
Any info is appreciated.

Carrollton Is a suburb of Dallas. I don't live there but have a distributor there... I'm there once a week or so. Not sure on the cost of living. I would think ther would be quite a bit of housing in and around Carrollton. One thing... there are a few bodies of water within an hour or so! What will you be doing?

I am currently a purchasing mgr. for an optical lab.
Put it simple - I buy the stuff that you use to make eyeglasses.
I used to be in Construction - this has been a big change.

There is a Co. in TX that is looking for EXACTLY what I do, and I'm considering it...
Help!!!!!!

I haven't had to put together a resume in years...
The resume was easy enough to put together, but I'm having trouble with this "cover letter" thing.
Any help??

I have been self employed for about 20 years... what's a resume :D I could'nt begin to start.

I was self employed for 6 years - I only have this job because my wife had a headhunter after her and I couldn't find anything. Otherwise I'd still just be a dumb carpenter (life was easier then...).
Now, I have other Co.s looking at me.

still can't figure out this cover letter thing.
Apparently it's something you're supposed to do.
I'm just used to, " I'll come to work every day, I'll never be late, and I'll work my aZZ off. I'll save you money, and you will be able to sleep at night knowing that I'm watching the store. I will never steal, cheat, or lye.
Isn't that all you want from an employee?

I would think if you list your experience ....and also what you said ....you'll get the job .....providing at the interview they can tell your sincere ......

The cover letter in an intro to your resume and says how you can be everything they ask for in the job listing. It also asks for interview etc. I am graduating this may, so I am sending a lot of these out.

Carrolton is a nice area of Dallas.

Contact my girlfriend. She is a realtor who used to live in Carrolton. She can give you all of the information that you are looking for including housing, cost of living, median income for it and other areas around Dallas, info on lakes, etc....

I live in Plano (home to the world headquarters of EDS, Dr Pepper, Frito Lay, CountryWide Lending, JC Penny and more) which is less than 10 miles away, but closer to the lakes. Not sure what you are looking for, but my house is currently for sale.

When I first moved to the area in 1985 I lived in Carrollton. As expected, there's parts that have declined and there are parts near the old town center that are very old but are starting to be revitalized. North Carrollton is where the newer area's are and Northwest Carrollton still has a lot of new and nice housing construction going on. It's also just minutes from Lewisville Lake.

Don't lock yourself into Carrollton to live though. Therea re areas not too far away depending on what you're looking for. Average home prices will be somewhere in the mid to upper 100's up to 200-300k I'd say for Carrollton. Lewisvill borders it on the west and Flower Mound to the west of Lewisville which is in the 10-15 mile range. New homes out this direction will be in the $300+ range I'd guess at this point.

As for lakes:

Lewisville Lake - minutes
Lake Grapevine (small) - 15-20 minutes
Lake Ray Roberts - 45 minutes or so
Lake Texoma - 45-60 minutes
Ray Hubbard - 30-45 minutes (west of Dallas)
Joe Pool - 30-45 minutes (Arlington area and also small)
Possum Kingdom - 2 hours (mostly back roads but a great lake)
Lake Lavon (north of Ray Hubbard) - 34-45 minutes
Richland Chambers - 60-75 minutes (south of Dallas near Corsicana)
Lake Murray (southern Okla. Small but super clean and quiet) - 60-75 minutes
Bigger lakes like that are more than 2 hours:
Lake Travis - 4 hours (roughly)
Several lakes in Oklahoma like Grand, Eufala, Tenkiller, Broken Bow. All are within 4 hours I'd guess

I know I'm missing some lakes like one south of Ft Worth that's about 60 minutes away, Bridgeport about 2 hours and others.

We have a lot of lakes, but ther biggest ones like Texhoma are in the 90k acre size range where ones like Lewisville and Ray Roberts are in the 30k acre range. Ones I said were small like Grapevine (you may fly over it near DFW airport) are about 6k acres.

Oh, and we have HOT chicks! :evilb:
