Where are you in Texas? What Marina?

I think that the 29 Scarabs are a lot of boat for the money. Stock you are probably only going to run 65mph but that is a lot of boat. I think you could find a pretty nice one for under 50k. A Formula would be equally nice, i just dont have much experience there.
This is not a flame, but on Texas lakes, 25-30ft Bajas are everywhere.

I've got a 25 Warlock for sale w/outboards for less than that, but since it's your first performance boat I would suggest that a used V hull, Fountain, Formula, Checkmate in the 25-30' range would be a better boat until you figure out what you really want in a boat, then you will know what you want and can trade up.
Stay with stock power so it's turnkey.

Good Luck,
Caleb

What about a 22' Donzi classic w/496 HO? Brand new on trailer for mid $40k, no cabin but will run mid 70's. Great first boat

I suggest dropping your wishes by 2 MPH and buying my Cig for 25K and put the other 25K on a nice mutual fund...

I would take a look at the Superboat 30 Y2K.
New boat for close to the money and speed.

It seems the trick is to find one in beautiful condition, and keep it that way. You can get a lot of older boat for your budget.
Couldnt agree more, I have an 89 311 for sale, I stsrted with a donzi Z25, and then went to this, the donzi was way too small. this one can be had for 40-42K,twin 502 EFI ready to roll w/ trailer.

YELLOW7,
I might have something you'd be interested in. I have just decided to put my boat up for sale. It is a 1997 Formula 271 FASTech (27 ft.). It is loaded with goodies; HP 500 carb (275 hours), Bravo drive, Myco trailer, Latham steering, Kiekafer trim tabs, labbed prop, two covers and a long list of additional options. The top speed is in the 72-73 mph range. She runs as if on rails at 45-65 mph speeds. The entire package is in excellent condition. It is the Manhattan color scheme; White with Red, Teal, Purple accents. The grapic is the Imron # 3 which is a stripe into a splash down the sides.

As I have just made the decision to sell I haven't even advertised it yet. I am going to ask $58K so it might be in your price range. I will be posting an ad here on OSO soon with pictures. Just PM or email me if you would like a complete option list and pictures. I am in Austin, TX if you want to make arrangements to come by and look her over.
