Cat Canopy Question
What are the pros and cons of having canopies on a 32 or 36' Cat?
|
Re: Cat Canopy Question
Pro's- Protection from the wind and other objects such as low flying birds (I almost had one hit me once) :D
Con's- They distort your vision, they are hot as hell while at slow speeds in a warm climate. I would not own a boat with traditional quarter canopies because they give me a headache. The new Skater I just bought has the 1/5th canopies and I will see how they work. |
Re: Cat Canopy Question
I like the double-wide canopy on the MTIs and my Jag. Minimal distortion. We added fan driven air vents in the dash to help with air flow at low speeds.
Ditto the protection from birds. I had the same happen on my ex Chris Cat: sea gull left marks on the "wind fairing" where it hit and then "brushed my hair" at 100 mph. Due |

REALLY hot at low speeds

Re: Cat Canopy Question
Depends on how much you value your life.

Re: Cat Canopy Question
They are very hot when at idle. I really have a sense of securty with them. I had a 30' Spectre and got hit in the face with a wave when I triped it. It felt like getting hit with a bat. I had Black eyes for 2 weeks. Thank God I was only doing about 75 mph. I wouldn't own a cat without them.

Re: Cat Canopy Question
I have twin canopies on my 30' motion. At slow speeds I stand up so my head is outside the canopie. I would not own a boat without them now.
