Amelia Island Concours any OSO members going?
 

My son and I have an invitation to bring one of our old race cars to this years Amelia Island Concours.

If any OSO members are going to be in attendance, please stop by and say hello. We are grouped with the:
Tribute to celebrate 50 years of the Chevy small block.

Our car is the number 60 race car with CHATIM RACING on it.

The photo shows the car in competition at Road America in the IMSA Endurance Firehawk series back in the 80's.

I live about 15 mins away. Went 2 years ago. Stunning cars. I may go if wife has to work (she has no interest). If I do I'll stop by and say hello.

Beautiful day here in Boca.....lots better than the weather I left behind in Rhode Island.

My son is wearing his Offshore Only T-shirt....so he should be easy to recognize.

Just got back from Amelia Island and had a great time. If you ever get the chance to go – do it – it’s a great show.

On Friday night, they rolled my car into the Grand Ballroom at the Ritz Carlton for the GM small block seminar. A talk was given by a GM engineer on the 50 year history of the small block and they had a panel there to take questions (Junior Johnson, David Hobbs, George Perris, and a couple of others. It was moderated by David E. Davis). My car was one of 4 there – the other three being the new Corvette, the Stingray prototype, and a 50’s vette race car. They also had a cool display of engines through the years.

I have the pictures from Friday night in another camera so I can post later but here are a few from the show. My car wasn’t eligible for judging as it was made after 1974 – I was just part of the GM small block display on the field. That’s me standing next to the car in the yellow OFFSHORE ONLY t-shirt.

...and three more. The last is a picture of my dad (Charlie McCarthy) and Brock Yates. My dad and Brock go way back to the early 70's and also dad raced in the very last Cannonball race in '79 placing 8th with a cross-country time of 36 hours and 11 minutes!
